The historic Paris Agreement provides an opportunity for countries to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Goal 13, Climate Action, calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. It is linked to all 16 of the other Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Negotiations on legislation related to the European Green Deal between the European Parliament, the Member States and the European Commission are ongoing and it is important to maintain ambitious targets if we want to avoid the breaking of planetary boundaries.
The discussions will also look into the new insights on climate impacts, vulnerability and adaptation from the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.
The 1st European Innovation Area Summit is building on a series of EIA events from the past 18 months. Meanwhile many organisations and individuals have signed the EIA Manifesto and submitted ideas for actions.
The ‘EIA Ideas of the Week’ are published on the conference website and will be handed over to Commissioner Mariya Gabriel. A selection of the proposed actions and ideas will be discussed at the EIA Workshop and with Commissioner Gabriel at the summit event.
The event is organised at the time of the Commission Communication on Europe’s Future Innovation Agenda. This is a first exceptional opportunity to present and discuss ideas for the implementation of a new innovation policy agenda for Europe.

It goes without saying that the New European Innovation Agenda is just one of the main outcomes of our collaboration. Because the K4I Forum was the first one to introduce the idea.
I have full confidence that (your) the great effort of Knowledge4innovation to encourage innovation and creative thinking will ultimately bring benefits to EU citizens.
The countries that are still below the European average , from the technology and innovation side, need to make an effort and this is related with the Recovery and Resilience Plan because it is not only receiving the money but is doing the necessary transformations inside the countries.
The European Innovation Area gives a very great opportunity to highlight the need on how we can connect education with innovation in the best way.
It is very important to understand this as the future we want to have. A sustainable future, equal, respectful and resilient. Women have to be the future leaders we need to make our future green to drive this transition, and the sustainable transition.
To be Strong at the European level, we need to be strong at the local level. I always say that we don't need to copy Silicon Valley. We can have thousands of valleys here in Europe.
We believe that engineering solutions can help to ensure human security in climate change, in terms of ensuring water, energy, and food security. There are at least 4 things we are focusing on: the increase of anticipator power of engineering, by making Digital Twins for anticipating water behavior in Deltas, and the role of information on co-evolution of online and offline behavior; climate safety and security for displaced populations; offer solutions do decrease dependencies on CRM; and finally, we need to think to future plans of action in terms of safe, secure and sustainable by design.
We need an interdisciplinary approach and work together. We need to collect and combine local knowledge from all different cities and different countries to understand what works and how to work better together. We also need to implement a full chain, starting from the ideas, their implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Investors may miss out opportunities for smart investments in cutting edge scientific discoveries and innovation by overlooking women. It is important to reach out to the investors community to create a dialogue between female scientists and engineers interested in commercialising their research with investors.
Women play an important part of the New Era of Green Industry and Technology .However there are may barriers , mostly cultural to entry and finance mechanisms as well as technical support that need to be considered . Without Women’s full involvement there can be no Sustainable future.
What technology do we need to push? There is not a single solution because there are various technologies that should be stimulated simultaneously and each sector has different needs. However, the efforts should be directed to the electrification of the industry, the conversion to fuels and batteries, and the negative emissions.
